Biographical Info Originally from the New York City area, Ms. Carboni’s previous educational and professional endeavors have included a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Philosophic Anthropology and certification training as a Montessori Pre-School teacher. She worked for several years at the NYC headquarters of AFS -- the American Field Service International Scholarships -- where she placed American students with foreign host families and helped design and implement the week-long pre-departure, foreign orientation program. Then, after receiving a Master’s Degree from New York University in Cross-Cultural Education/TESOL, she spent 12 years teaching English-as-a-Second-Language to adult refugees from Ethiopia, Haiti and Southeast Asia. In 1980, she was awarded membership in Phi Delta Kappa -- an honorary international fraternity of educators -- and in 2005 was recognized for her 25 years as valued member. After receiving a second Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston College, Ms. Carboni was hired by McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School where she had trained as an intern. While on staff at McLean, Ms. Carboni worked in adult inpatient psychiatry and focused on trauma recovery, bipolar illness and chronic mental illness. She worked extensively with families and couples and was a supervisor of social work interns. She also sought out and completed a training program at the McLean Institute for Counseling in Addictions. In 1990, Ms. Carboni left McLean to pursue a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the newly-opened inpatient unit at Cambridge Hospital, where she also worked in the psychiatric emergency room and the outpatient child and adolescent clinic. She was privileged to have the distinction of being the first Social Work Fellow at Cambridge Hospital. During this time, Ms. Carboni opened a part-time psychotherapy practice and was completing her five-year, post-graduate training program in Bioenergetic Analysis at the MA Society for Bioenergetic Analysis. She attended several workshops and training sessions with Alexander Lowen, MD, the originator of Bioenergetic Analysis, and informally assisted him on numerous occasions. After her Fellowship, she left Cambridge Hospital to pursue full-time private practice, treating adults in individual and couples therapy, developing a specialty in Bioenergetic Analysis, and providing consultation to other therapists and bodywork practitioners. In 1993, Ms. Carboni was awarded the honorary status of Diplomate in Clinical Social Work by the National Association of Social Workers and was allowed to use the designation “DCSW”. In recent years, Ms. Carboni has pursued intensive training and specialization in Clinical Hypnosis. She completed a year-long advanced hypnosis externship program with Daniel Brown, PhD ; trained in medical hypnotherapy at Winchester Hospital with Ted Benton, MEd; and pursued intensive training in Ericksonian Hypnosis in Phoenix, Arizona. She continues to attend workshops with Dan Brown, PhD in Boston and Master Classes with Jeffrey Zeig, PhD in NYC. In 2007, Ms Carboni was part of a charter training group in Advanced Level II Brainspotting with David Grand, PhD, renowned for his EMDR work, and has now completed training Level I and II of EMDR through the EMDR Institute. She is certified in Clinical Hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, in Bioenergetic Analysis by the International Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis and has a Certificate of Completion from the EMDR Institute. Beyond her commitment to her patients, Ms. Carboni has also been dedicated to her professional and collegial community. She has held numerous positions in various professional organizations such as -- Chair of the Clinical Committee & Member of the Board of Managers for Rutland Corner House (a psychiatric halfway house for women in Brookline MA), Chair of the Ethics Committee & Executive Board Member for the MA Society for Bioenergetic Analysis; Founding Board Member & Chair of the Ethics Committee for the MA Association of Body-Oriented Psychotherapists and Counseling Bodyworkers; Instructor in Ethics and Business at the Omni Institute for Optimal Health; Editor of the Newsletter for the International Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis; and Editor of the Newsletter for the MA Association of Body-Oriented Psychotherapists and Counseling Bodyworkers. She is an active member of the International Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis, the MA Society for Bioenergetic Analysis, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the New England Society for the Treatment of Trauma and Dissociation, the EMDR International Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. She is also a member of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. After all these years, Ms. Carboni continues to fervently believe in each individual’s innate capacity for self-actualization and brings a vigor, maturity and commitment to her work that is refreshing and rare. Her love of learning and her high professional standards are as evident as her insightfulness and compassion are distinct. |
